Nato a Trapani nel 1955, Matteo Giurlanda segue subito la strada della ristorazione: già a 15 anni è apprendista al Re Aceste di Erice mentre a 19 si forma nelle più rinomate strutture siciliane. Entra nel mondo di Costa Crociere nel 1978, acquisendo ad ogni sua tappa nuove conoscenze e nuove tradizioni. Nel 1980 torna nel suo primo ristorante in qualità di chef, ma la vera svolta è del 1990, quando ad Erice apre il Ristorante Monte San Giuliano.
Qui ancora oggi Giurlanda propone una cucina capace di valorizzare i prodotti di eccellenza della cultura gastronomica siciliana, in particolare trapanese, esaltando tipicità quali mandorle, olive, pistacchi e aglio, il tutto interpretato in maniera personale e lavorato con tecniche innovative. Un gusto tutto mediterraneo che riscopre nella genuinità il suo vero punto di forza.
Alla ricerca di sempre nuovi sapori, riceve nel ’97 il Collegio Cocorum dalla Federazione italiana cuochi. Tra i suoi incarichi, ad oggi è presidente dell’Associazione provinciale cuochi trapanesi.

Matteo Giurlanda was born in 1955, in Trapani. He immediately followed the cuisine path: when he was 15 years old he was an apprentice in Re Aceste in Erice, while at 19 years old he grew in the most famous Sicilian restaurants. He entered the world of Costa Crociere in 1978, always acquiring new knowledges of different traditions. In 1980 he returned to his first restaurant as chef, but the real change was in 1990, when he opened in Erice the Restaurant Monte San Giuliano.
Here Giurlanda proposes a cuisine able to enhance the best products of the gastronomic culture of Sicily, in particular of Trapani, exalting typical products such as almonds, olives, pistachios and garlic, all interpreted in a personal way and worked with innovative techniques. A taste completely Mediterranean, that discovers its true power in genuineness.
Always looking for new tastes, he received in 1997 the Collegio Cocorum of Italian Chef Federation. Among his charge, today, he is the President of the provincial Chefs Association of Trapani.
